SICURTECH EXPO 2024: Tema Sistemi’s Cultural Heritage fire protection project.

On June 26, 2024, in the picturesque setting of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the second stage of SICURTECH Expo 2024, the traveling event dedicated to fire protection innovations, was held.

The central theme of the day, “Fire Protection of Cultural Heritage – Innovation to Protect Beauty,” offered a unique opportunity for discussion and debate among industry experts, institutional representatives and safety professionals.

Organized by ANIMA Confindustria’s National Association of Safety and Firefighting Companies UMAN, in collaboration with the Order of Engineers of the Province of Florence and the FIRE Scientific Committee of Remtech Expo, the event was attended by top experts from the National Fire Brigade, the Minister of Culture and numerous other distinguished speakers.

In a country such as Italy, which as of September 2023 boasts as many as 59 sites recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the protection of cultural heritage takes on extraordinary importance. Data reported in the 2023 Edition of the Ministry of Culture’s “Minicities of Culture” project highlight the vastness of Italy’s cultural heritage: 4,416 heritage sites, 77 percent of which are museums, collections and galleries, 16 percent monuments and monumental complexes, and the remaining 7 percent archaeological sites, areas and parks. Of these, 65 percent are publicly owned, with a clear predominance of those belonging to local authorities, particularly municipalities.

The importance of Italy’s cultural heritage is further confirmed by Italy’s ranking first in the FutureBrand Country Index 2020 for its wealth of historical landmarks, artistic heritage and culture. In this context, it becomes essential to discuss the best ways to manage and protect heritage through advanced Made in Italy technologies.

Tema Sistemi SpA, a sponsor company of the event, presented its scientific and industrial research project SAFENG. This ambitious project aims to develop an innovative firefighting system capable of simultaneously protecting humans, works of art and the environment. Tema Sistemi’s research marks a significant paradigm shift: it does not focus exclusively on protecting people, but also extends its attention to priceless works of art and the environment, recognizing both as irreproducible heritages.

During the event, experts from Tema Sistemi SpA explained how the SAFENG project is a concrete response to the need for integrated and sustainable protection for cultural heritage. The technology developed promises to become a benchmark in the field, combining scientific advancements and innovative practices to ensure effective and respectful protection of our artistic and environmental heritage.

SICURTECH Expo 2024 thus represented an important opportunity for dialogue and collaboration between institutions and companies, confirming Italy’s commitment to preserving and enhancing its priceless cultural heritage through cutting-edge solutions.
